1961 saw DW write an unusual book.
Forming the first part of his autobiography, and sandwiched between his usual works of fiction, DW wrote a book which was partly a ‘do it yourself’ guide to bricklaying, and partly a series of reminiscences of his experiences as a soldier in France in World War One.
Taking the title ‘Saturdays with Bricks’, it was dedicated to his Commander-in-Chief in World War Two and fellow bricklayer Sir Winston Churchill.
DW was delighted to have Sir Winston accept the dedication.
