In the previous volume I made some attempt to link the stories together by writing an introductory note to each, giving any episode in connection with its origin or history which seemed to me interesting or amusing, and I propose to do the same for this second collection.  In it the 'Ghost Hunter' series is the only set of stories having the same central character and, as the original of that character was a most exceptional personality it is, I think, worthwhile to give the following particulars about him here.
