DW gave a party on 29th January 1959 to celebrate the publication of the story of the first phase of his work in World War Two, entitled 'Stranger than Fiction'.

A huge array of the 'top brass' and many of his more junior friends from his World War Two days were invited, with the bulk of them coming.

Peter Fleming and his wife were on the invitation list, as was Joan Bright (now Joan Astley); but not, for whatever reason, Ian Fleming.
