DW kept his correspondence with his friends, and at the time of his death as far as one can tell, it was pretty much intact, and generally filed by friend and then by date. Since DW's death however, much of this has been dispersed, and whereas the location of DW's correspondence with James Hilton and various other authors is known, the whereabouts of DW's correspondence with Ian Fleming (if there was any) is currently unknown.

The only reference to Ian Fleming in DW's known correspondence is in a letter to DW from his wartime colleague Derrick Morley of 3rd September 1962, in which DM wrote:

"I saw Ian Fleming yesterday and thought he seemed a little jealous of the reviews you had in the Sunday Press."

An interesting and perhaps unexpected comment on the IF side of the relationship - the comment made a month before the release of the first James Bond film, 'Dr. No'.
