H M S Worcester

More-or-less contemporary postcards of H M S Worcester

To give him a more disciplined environment, DW's father sent him to H M S Worcester, a naval training ship moored on the Thames at Greenhithe, about halfway between Dartford and Tilbury.

It's regime was fierce and the food inedible, but DW seems to have enjoyed it more than Dulwich, at least in his later years. Although he always professed to being a bit of a physical coward, he seems to have acquitted himself well in the odd fight, and to have successfully evaded capture when he broke the rules and went on various solitary and totally illicit forays.
